ECONOMY

It is based mainly on port activities, export and import (largest in the country), industry of ornamental stones (marble and granite), where we are the world's largest, the cellulose (largest in the country), extracted from pine to eucalyptus in oil exploration (2nd largest) and natural gas (largest in the country), and the diversified agriculture, especially the planting of coffee (2nd largest).

Its extensive natural resources and its great potential, were explored only after the 1950s, as the state was left to serve as a natural barrier, because of the dense forest and the high mountains of the state to possible foreign invasions that craved to get the gold of Minas Gerais, the state only has returned to the village of truth with the introduction of coffee, but only began to grow with industrialization that began in the 40s.

The state's economy is seen in a phase of great growth that is mainly due to the fact that the expansion of agriculture and tourism, and the discovery of huge deposits of oil and natural gas, and also that only in recent years the state has explore its great economic potential, with the establishment of industries of ornamental, and the state is the largest producer of marble and granite in the world, and also the deployment of Aracruz Celulose, today Fiber.

The main crops are: rice, coffee (the country's most important, so that the municipality of São Gabriel da Palha determines the rest of the country daily rate Conilon coffee market), beans, fruits (bananas, passion fruit, papaya ) corn. In livestock, beef cattle and dairy. Vitória is important port for exporting iron ore. Guarapari is an important center for extracting monazite sand (rich in cerium, thorium, lanthanum and titanium). In São Mateus, they discovered and explored oil reserves on the continental shelf.
